Adjunct Associate Professor, Southern
Cross University (Center for Whale Research)
David is an Adjunct Associate Professor, at Southern Cross University,
and is attached to the Southern Cross Center for Whale Research. Prior
to establishing the Center, David worked for more than 20 years for
a range of nature conservation agencies including Queensland Marine
Parks on the Great Barrier Reef and New South Wales National Parks and
Wildlife Service, where he was the Senior Manager.
David has been conducting research on whales and dolphins since the
1980's. His work has taken him throughout Australia and to a range of
countries in the South Pacific including Tonga and Somoa, as well as
Hawaii, America, North USA, Canada and Antarctica. David is currently
co-ordinating a number of projects including monitoring the recovery
of the eastern Australian humpbacks whale population at Cape Byron.
During 2001 he co-ordinated the first whale and dolphin study of its
type to be undertaken in Samoa, with extensive local involvement from
a range of government agencies and non-governmental organisations.
