NICKY RUMNEY

Research Assistant from Port Douglas, Queensland Australia.

Nicky has grown up swimming with and assisting research on Dwarf Minke Whales on the Great Barrier Reef aboard her father's adventure dive and research boat 'Undersea Explorer' . Each year during June and July these friendly whales aproach the boats in the far North Queensland region and initiate close underwater encounters with researchers and tourists alike.

It was on 'Undersea Explorer' that the researchers from James Cook University and the Museum of Rownsville developed the code of practice to swim with these inquisitive creatures. For more information see Undersea Explorer's webpage.
